This Fourth of July, we celebrate 250 years of American freedom. But freedom has never been the whole promise. The promise is also that we look after one another. This year, that promise is personal for Texas.
Last summer, a flooding Guadalupe River took the lives of 27 young girls and counselors at Camp Mystic, along with 135 others in the Hill Country. In the months since the Camp Mystic tragedy, I’ve sat with their parents and listened to their stories. Their grief is a weight our whole state carries.
This holiday, my message is simple: There is no better way to honor this country than making Texas safer and stronger. We owe these families our action, so that no parent stands where they stand today. That is the work that lies ahead.
Happy Fourth of July. As we honor 250 years, let’s hold the families of Heaven’s 27 and the Hill Country flood victims in our hearts.
Last week, the General Investigating Committee on the July 2025 Flooding Events – where I served as Chair – delivered its final, complete, and factual report on the events at Camp Mystic and along the Guadalupe River.
It is not an easy read. Many of the failures we found were preventable. Together with new safety standards enacted by the Legislature, Texas will hold youth camps to a higher standard going forward.
To the families who carried this work and led us here: thank you. Your daughters are the reason it mattered. We will honor the lives lost not with words alone, but by making certain Texas is ready the next time the water rises.
On Memorial Day, we remember the Americans who gave their lives in service to our country, and we honor the families who carry their legacy forward every day. Their sacrifice reminds us that freedom is never free - and that courage, duty, and love of country endure long after the battle ends.
Ellie, watching you grow into the smart, kind, determined young woman you are today has been one of the greatest joys of our life. We could not be more proud of you, not just for what you’ve accomplished, but for the person you’ve become. We can’t wait to see all the amazing things ahead for you. No matter where life takes you, always remember how deeply loved and supported you are.
Congratulations! We love you so much. Mom & Dad
Happy Mother’s Day to the woman who is, without question, the best thing that has ever happened to these three — and honestly, to me too. We love you, Keana. Today and every day. 💛
🎉 Happy Birthday to the woman who makes every day warmer, funnier and more full of love — Keana, you are one of a kind! The world is genuinely a better place because of you, and I’m so grateful to have you by my side. We cannot wait to celebrate you!
Had a great time meeting with Pack 71 of the Bradfield Cub Scouts! We talked about how elections work, the different types of voting like majority and plurality, and what it really means to represent constituents and write legislation. It’s always inspiring to see young leaders so engaged and curious about how our government works. The future is bright with groups like this coming up behind us!
From the entire Meyer family, THANK YOU. We are deeply grateful for your support and truly honored by the trust you showed us in last night’s GOP primary.
Serving this community is a privilege we will never take for granted. We’re excited to continue the work ahead – leading for safe communities, strong families, a growing economy, and a bright future for Texas. Onward to November!
